Hell is a key element of Diablo series, and it is finally coming to Diablo 4 Season 5! The developers have finally announced the name of the new season: Season of the Infernal Hordes, which will undoubtedly become the core mechanic throughout Season 5.

Returning to Hell is a special moment for Diablo 4. In Infernal Hordes, you will enter this mode, fight waves of demons, and be able to change the form of the game experience as you play. In this season, you will also have the opportunity to delve into the mysteries of Diablo 4 with some unexpected allies and really understand what is going on. So, get ready and let’s take a look!

A Complete Guide To The Core Mechanics Of Diablo 4 Season 5: Season Of The Infernal Hordes

Seasonal Questline

In this season, the concept of “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” is often used. You will meet a man named Locran, who seems a bit ordinary at first, but you will soon realize that something is wrong and this guy is a bit strange.

Locran and Istel are your allies, and they will help you return to Hell. It is worth noting that they are all demonologists, and they will use this knowledge to help you return to Hell stronger and able to fight Infernal Hordes.

Infernal Hordes Explained

Infernal Hordes is a new endgame activity in Diablo 4. It is mainly a wave-based activity, and you will fight waves of demon forces in Hell.

If you have ever played a wave-based game, you know that things will escalate. Because there are Meteor Strikes and all kinds of things trying to keep you on your toes.

One thing that makes Infernal Hordes different is the concept of Infernal Offers. In between each wave, you have to make a choice, and you will be given an Infernal Offer. By choosing one of the three Offers, you will change the game mode in some way, whether it is positive or negative.

You can imagine that the hands that reach out from the depths of Hell give you both a boon and a bane, both a kiss and a curse. This is the temptation of Fell Council. In this temptation, you will get more power, but this power comes at a price. So you can choose which temptations you want to pursue during your journey to Hell and then customize your experience from there.

One of the guiding principles of this game mode is replay. It’s an end-game mode that ensures you can play it repeatedly. And there will be a range of enemies to fight against you in this mode.

In the lexicon of Diablo monster families, we have many demons to choose from, but we’ll see other enemies that you might not expect. There will be certain types of enemies here, such as Goatmen who were banished to Hell and have now gathered around Mephisto and are fighting alongside him. Even some of the unfortunate souls who made the journey to Hell from Cathedral of Light are now resurrected in Hell to fight you alongside the demons.

The developers said that Infernal Hordes was built with multiplayer in mind, but multiplayer is not required. They wanted to ensure that single-player players will also have a very fun experience in Infernal Hordes. That being said, if you join with a group of people, you will certainly have a lot of fun.

All in all, this game mode will appear in both Eternal and Seasonal Realm, which means that, even if the season ends, it will always be there. Infernal Hordes will be unlocked at World Tier 3. So, actually, to access it, what you need to do is work your way up to World Tier 3, then complete Eternal Questline that takes you back to Hell, which then unlocks Infernal Hordes.

Season Progression

For players in World Tier 1 and 2, you definitely can’t miss this season progression, which will help you become stronger so that you can fight Infernal Hordes.

First, you get Reputation, and this applies to Reputation track, which gives you a lot of very cool rewards, including some Diablo 4 Gold and unique items. Don’t underestimate them. These rewards will make you even more powerful as you advance to World Tier 3.

Hellbreach

Another new addition is a micro dungeon called Hellbreach that gives you a glimpse into the mechanics of Infernal Hordes. They give you a chance to learn these mechanics before fighting Infernal Hordes in World Tier 3.

Fell Council

The last boss of this season is Fell Council. Fell Council are some familiar faces you may recognize from Diablo 2. They are Zakarum Priest, holy men who were corrupted and basically became Vessels of Hatred.

Council members in Diablo 2 tried to help Mephisto control Soulstone. However, Mephisto slowly corrupted them anyway. Eventually, you defeated them and sent them to Hell. But now, they are reborn with slightly different powers, but the same hostility towards you.

What’s interesting about this boss fight is that there are five Council members, but you can only fight three of them at a time. This allows us to create many different styles of boss fights for Fell Council. Every time you fight a Council fight, there’s a good chance you’ll encounter a different fight than the last time. We think this will provide players with a lot of replayability.

And during the fight you also have the chance to earn Aether. Burning Aether is a resource you collect during your time in Infernal Hordes that you can use at the end of the campaign. There are a fixed number of waves that you have to beat, and once you complete all of them, you will face Fell Council, defeat them, and collect your treasure.

Spoils Of Hell

So after you defeat Fell Council, Spoils of Hell will appear, and then you will consume Burning Aether as you open these chests.

Now, the trick is, as you play through these waves, this is your chance to earn as much Aether as possible. Different events will appear in all of the waves around the arena, and your task is to try to beat as many of them as possible to collect all Aether you can.

Really skilled players will be able to really maximize Aether in order to get the biggest reward after defeating Fell Council.

New Uniques And Legendaries

With this Burning Aether, you will be able to get new Uniques, Legendaries, and Rare materials. Many of the new Uniques and Legendaries are built on the idea of forging in Hell. So, they will have a unique look, and then you can make them into cosmetics and use them however you want.

They can also have unique VFX and sound effects to really create the feeling that they are forged in Hell. This is one of the keys to the power of Hell that we are exploring.

Death In Infernal Hordes

Finally, Death in Infernal Hordes is a big deal. You are returning to Realm of Hatred, the birthplace of Mephisto. And in Infernal Hordes, you only have a fixed number of resurrections to reach the end.

In the lower difficulties of Infernal Hordes, your party will share a certain number of resurrections. But in higher difficulties, the game will start to cancel these resurrections, which raises the stakes for you. If you die too much, you will be kicked out of the mode.

In short, in Infernal Hordes, monsters have many unexpected ways to ambush players, and we must always be vigilant. And there are many little surprises and twists everywhere in Seasonal and Eternal questlines. Regardless, be prepared to start a hearty journey of Hell slaughter at any time!
