Necromancer Sees Broad Buffs in Diablo 4 Season 12 PTR While Golem Build Finally Works Properly

Feb 03, 2026 Author: D4gold

Diablo 4 Season 12 PTR has begun, and many players are excited for the new season, especially the killstreak system, which looks very interesting.

Of course, class balance is also a major concern, as even a minor change by the developers can create or destroy a meta build. This discussion won't cover all classes, but will focus on Necromancer.

Necromancer Sees Broad Buffs in Diablo 4 Season 12 PTR While Golem Build Finally Works Properly

Sanctification Impact

Before delving into Necromancer adjustments, it's necessary to understand the impact of the removal of Sanctification system. This will help you have a reasonable expectation of the build strength in Season 12.

Simply put, the strength difference brought by Sanctification depends on whether you achieve perfect crafting results. If you obtain Mythic affixes for The Grandfather and Ring of Starless Skies, and other damage affixes are also perfect, this should allow you to climb 10 to 11 levels in The Pit or Tower compared to builds without Sanctification gear.

However, for most average players, perfectly crafted Diablo 4 items are extremely rare. Therefore, for the average player, the build strength loss is approximately 2 to 5 levels of The Pit.

Even with Mythic items, which can directly double damage, the endgame improvement is only about 2-3 levels. Other common defensive or utility affixes have even smaller impacts.

Necromancer Adjustments

Necromancer received several buffs in this PTR update, but the developers didn't optimize some core aspects that affect the experience.

Based on current data, most mainstream builds will see a slight strength increase, making it easier to clear The Pit 100 levels and push higher in Tower. Golem build sees the most significant improvement due to a crucial bug fix.

Golem Necromancer Fix

Previously, Aspect of Fel Gluttony could not trigger when the golem performed a double attack, leading players to mistakenly believe that using Focus with the main hand dealt more damage than using Shield.

However, due to the damage calculation method, the shield actually provides a greater overall boost to both Aspect of Fel Gluttony and the base golem damage. This bug has now been fixed; Aspect of Fel Gluttony now correctly benefits from the bonus from attacking twice, and its interaction with the shield is also normal. This means Golem build will fully transition to using shields, gaining higher damage and significant damage reduction, enhancing both survivability and output.

Golem build has jumped from the top three to second place, and may even compete for first. Therefore, in PTR 2.6.0, the expected strength ranking of top builds is:

  • Shadowblight Necromancer
  • Golem Necromancer
  • Bloodwave Necromancer
  • Mage Minions Necromancer

Legendary Node Changes

Blood Begets Blood

  • Original Effect: After picking up a Blood Orb, gain a 10% damage bonus for 5 seconds, up to 5 stacks (50%).
  • New Effect: Duration increased to 10 seconds, damage bonus per stack increased.

The original DoT Necromancer build was forced to use this node, but its activation heavily relied on Blighted Corpse Tendrils triggering Blood Orb35% on a single target, resulting in mediocre effectiveness against bosses.

This change gives it a longer duration and higher single-stack damage, meaning players will have more opportunities to refresh and maintain this multiplier, leading to more consistent performance against bosses.

Fleesh-eater

  • Original effect: Consume 3 corpses every 6 seconds to gain a 40% damage multiplier.
  • New effect: Consume 1 corpse every 8 seconds to gain a 60% damage multiplier.

Fleesh-eater is simpler to use and has higher values, making it a pure buff. However, there's a small issue: its duration is not synchronized with Fueled by Death (a passive skill that consumes corpses to gain a 6-second damage multiplier), causing the refresh times of these two buffs to be misaligned.

Scent of Death

  • Change: Critical strike damage bonus changed to a fixed 45% damage multiplier.

Scent of Death provides a consistent damage boost without requiring any conditions, thus its numerical value is lower than other conditional nodes. However, its Paragon board rarity node benefit is poor.

Furthermore, with Blood Begets becoming easier to maintain, Scent of Death's 45% critical strike damage increase is no longer significant, making it primarily suitable for hardcore builds or those demanding extremely high stability.

Blood Bath

  • Original Effect: Increases Overpower damage. After Overpowering, your Blood abilities deal additional damage.
  • New Effect: Increases Overpower damage. After Overpowering, your physical damage is increased.

This is a change I made inexplicably. Builds like Bloodwave and Bone Spirit Necromancer can unlock a more powerful shadow damage multiplier system by converting damage into shadow damage using Might.

Therefore, this physical damage bonus is completely useless for them, resulting in a damage reduction of approximately 17%. The improvement from this change is also minimal for Blood Surge and Blood Lance Necromancer builds that use physical damage.

Wither

  • Change: When triggered, shadow damage dealt to targets affected by your damage over time is increased from 300% to 400%.

This equates to an average damage increase of 60% to 80%, an increase of approximately 13%, which is the largest numerical buff.

However, the core issue with Wither lies in its 20% random trigger rate, which is problematic in The Pit or Tower. In environments requiring speedrunning, players of similar skill levels can experience significant skill gaps due to varying degrees of luck.

Frailty

  • Change: Damage increase against cursed enemies, previously capped at 4 stacks, is now a flat 50%.

This is a very positive change. It removes the time-consuming stacking mechanism, providing the full bonus immediately during boss fights or short combat scenarios, making this node much more useful.

Looking at legendary nodes, Necromancers have received a significant numerical boost. Most builds will deal more damage and run smoother than before. Golem build should also see the biggest improvement in Season 12, but it shouldn't yet reach the level of the Shadowblight Necromancer.
