Diablo II: Resurrected Items Overview
Items in D2R are randomly generated equipment, including weapons, armor, charms, runes, and more. They determine a character's strength, skills, and survivability in high-level content. These items are crucial for survival, helping players build their own gear sets and facilitating trading. Rare items, in particular, are the primary target for farming gear in the late game.
Item Type Explanation
- Runes: Socketable items, similar to jewelry, that can be socketed into item slots to grant additional attributes.
- Runewords: Socket specific, ordered sequences of runes into non-magical, gray-name items to create powerful equipment.
- Gear: Player-obtainable equipment categorized by rarity (Normal, Magic, Rare, Set, Unique, Runeword) to optimize character builds.
- Bases: Socketed white/gray items, the foundation of Runewords.
- Jewel: Socketable items that can be socketed into items with slots. All jewelry initially possess 1-4 random magical attributes, but these only take effect after socketing.
- Misc: Includes quest items, consumables, and in-game currency.
- Magic Items: Blue, common items with one or two random magical affixes.
- Crafted Recipes: Can transform a Magic Item into a Crafted Item with the same base stats but different attributes.
- Rare Items: Randomly generated gear, with a maximum of 6 affixes.
- Sets: Green items; wearing multiple pieces of the same set grants additional stat bonuses.
- Uniques: Brown items with fixed, powerful stats.
- Charms: Small magic items that can be picked up, possibly with a magic prefix, suffix, or both.
- Class Specific: Items usable only by specific classes.
- Unidentified: This item will be displayed with a red box in your inventory and cannot be equipped, but is crucial for maximizing equipment stats.
- Max Varies 95%+: This increases monster resistances to 95%, breaking monster immunity and allowing the player to deal that type of damage.
How to obtain?
Because of the vast variety of items in Diablo 2 Resurrected, the acquisition methods for each item are generally different. However, to obtain some high-value rare runes, you can refer to the following methods:

Diablo 2 Resurrected Ladder Season 14 Warlock Starter Build Tier List | Goodbye Echoing Strike! Why Summon Tainted & Abyss Are the New God-Starters?
Diablo 2 Resurrected Ladder Season 14 is fast approaching, and you have likely already heard that the brand-new Warlock class, introduced in Reign of the Warlock expansion, has undergone significant balance adjustments for S14. In particular, Echoing Strike, the god-tier skill that dominated the entire meta last season, has suffered a severe nerf, with its core mechanics being thoroughly weakened.
So, is Warlock still a viable class to play? Or are there actually other builds that are more worth trying? To help you navigate the early-game progression and smoothly transition into the mid-to-late game of D2R Season 14, this article provides an in-depth evaluation of the current mainstream Warlock builds. Based on the latest patch changes and utilizing easily obtainable, low-budget gear setups, we present to you the absolute best Warlock build choices for your early-season ladder climb!

S Tier: Summon Tainted Warlock
With Echoing Strike dethroned, Summon Tainted / Blood Boil Warlock has surged to become the undisputed fan favorite of Season 14. It owes this rise to its exceptionally high damage scaling and its user-friendly gameplay style, which offers a perfect balance of offense and defense.
The core mechanic of this build relies on the potent fire damage output dealt by your Tainted Demons, combined with high-frequency combo attacks triggered by your core skill, Blood Boil. You will be able to clear high-difficulty zones with effortless ease.
Skill Tree Setup
Furthermore, this impressive damage output does not come with excessive demands regarding cost or skill point investment. You simply need to prioritize maxing out your two core damage skills: Summon Tainted and Blood Boil (20 points each).
Subsequently, if you wish to significantly raise your damage ceiling, you should max out the core synergy skills within the tree: Demonic Mastery and Engorge. Any remaining points can then be invested into Blood Oath to increase your pet's health and boost your own damage reduction rate. This ensures that your Warlock can survive even in the most lethal zones found within Hell difficulty.
In-Game Performance
Although Hell difficulty in Diablo 2 is notorious for its abundance of Fire-Immune monsters, Blood Boil skill itself deals substantial physical damage. Thanks to the synergy effects provided by Engorge, and with the assistance of your mercenary, you can handle these fire-immune threats with remarkable ease. Once properly set up, Summon Tainted Warlock build makes farming routine areas, such as Hell Cows, feel like effortlessly mowing through grass. However, managing its multiple active skills requires the player to maintain a precise rhythm in their skill rotation.
A Tier: Abyss Warlock
If you absolutely detest encountering skill-immune monsters that bring your farming runs to a grinding halt, Abyss Warlock should be your top choice.
Advantages
You can cast Miasma Chain at your feet to lock down monsters, then cast Abyss to gather and slow them down, followed immediately by casting Blade Warp in the opposite direction to teleport away. Since the chains from Miasma Chain do not break in D2R Season 14, teleporting to the other side of the monsters causes the chains to saw back and forth furiously, shredding everything caught in between. You can clear every enemy on the screen with virtually no effort.
Skill Tree Setup
To complete the skill tree setup for this Abyss Warlock build, you will need to invest 20 points each into Miasma Chain, Abyss, and their respective synergy skills.
During the early-game ladder start phase, when you lack sufficient gear to provide substantial bonuses to skill levels, we must forgo the area-of-effect bonus provided by Enhanced Entropy in favor of putting points into Psychic Ward to ensure survivability. Additionally, be sure to put at least one point into Blade Warp to enable the synergy with Miasma Chain.
Within Demon skill tree, you need to invest 5 points into Demonic Mastery to unlock the second skill slot. However, for this specific build, we deviate from the standard approach of summoning and sacrificing a Tainted demon to gain the Fire Bolt bonus; instead, we choose to summon a Defiler and Devour it. This grants a permanent debuff that drastically reduces the magic resistance of all nearby enemies.
In-Game Performance
In summary, Abyss Warlock offers exceptionally strong overall performance for a ladder-start build. Since there are virtually no magic-immune monsters in Hell difficulty of Diablo 2: Resurrected Season 14, you can easily clear areas like Chaos Sanctuary even while wearing nothing but junk gear. Although the pace might feel slightly sluggish in certain areas, the build remains incredibly safe and stable throughout.
B Tier: Fire Warlock
Now we arrive at the most classic and traditional pure-caster archetype: Fire Warlock. This build serves as an excellent transitional option and is highly recommended as your very first character for the start of Season 14.
Unlike other playstyles, Fire Warlock completely abandons physical weapon attacks, transforming instead into a pure fire mage. Utilizing skills such as Ring of Fire, Flame Wave, and Apocalypse, this build ensures your screen is constantly engulfed in a maelstrom of erupting flames.
Skill Tree Strategy
Regarding the skill tree, it is recommended that you first max out all the core fire-based skills located on the right side of Chaos tree (investing 20 points in each).
For Demon tree, follow a Dual Demon allocation strategy: invest 5 points in Demonic Mastery to synergize with the substantial physical damage reduction provided by Blood Oath; simultaneously, unlock Summon Tainted and then sacrifice the summoned Tainted demons to gain a massive percentage boost to your pure fire damage output.
In-Game Performance
On Normal and Nightmare difficulties, Fire Warlock build is virtually unstoppable, a true force of nature that cuts down anything in its path. However, upon reaching Hell difficulty, the build faces significant limitations because of the prevalence of fire-immune monsters, making it unsuitable for general map clearing or pioneering runs across the entire game world.
Nevertheless, because it allows you to stack incredibly high damage numbers using extremely inexpensive gear, this playstyle boasts a clearing speed in specific zones that ranks among the very best of all character classes.
C-Tier: Echoing Strike Warlock
Finally, let's take a look at Echoing Strike Warlock. As we mentioned at the outset, Echoing Strike, a skill that reigned supreme in Season 13, faced an epic nerf in Season 14.
Echoing Strike was changed from a defense-ignoring ability (which guaranteed a hit) to a skill that now requires a successful Attack Rating check. If your Attack Rating is insufficient, all five weapons you hurl will completely miss their targets.
That said, this does not mean the build is no longer worth attempting; it simply requires you to consider whether this particular playstyle remains viable for your specific needs. Since we are focusing on a low-budget build approach here, meaning we cannot simply use high-end Diablo 2: Resurrected gear to artificially boost our Attack Rating, this build has effectively split into two distinct paths.
Pure Physical Variant
The core of this playstyle lies in constantly stacking physical damage. This is achieved by investing in skills such as Levitation Mastery, Echoing Strike, Mirrored Blades, and Blade Warp, a combination that allows you to bypass the damage penalty typically associated with dual-wielding two-handed weapons while simultaneously granting a passive percentage bonus to your Attack Rating.
Additionally, the choice of mercenary (pet) is crucial for this build. It is highly recommended that you recruit a Goatman, as they provide the extremely rare and invaluable ability to break (reduce) the physical resistance of monsters.
However, this pure physical damage variant of the build is heavily, almost entirely, reliant on the quality of your weapon. When utilizing budget gear, even if your off-hand weapon is equipped with the Insight Runeword, it remains incredibly difficult to compensate for the inherent lack of Attack Rating and physical damage.
Furthermore, this setup is highly prone to sudden, fatal deaths, or insta-deaths, within Chaos Sanctuary on Hell difficulty. Consequently, in the current patch, we strongly advise against low-budget players attempting a pure physical damage build.
Magic Variant
Since landing physical attacks proves unreliable, we will instead leverage Echoing Strike to trigger magical explosions. Regarding skill allocation, we forgo maxing out Echoing Strike entirely; instead, we treat it merely as a high-frequency trigger mechanism. We then pivot to maxing out Hex: Purge, the primary damage source, along with its synergy skills: Hex: Bane and Eldritch Blast.
In particular, Mirrored Blades skill ensures that every attack launches five separate blades, thereby maximizing the frequency with which magical explosions are triggered.
The performance of this Magic variant far surpasses that of the pure physical version. Since the core damage output stems from the magical explosions triggered by Hex: Purge, this build is able to completely bypass the physical immunity encountered in Hell difficulty.
If you opt to deviate from the standard Crystal Sword in this build, choosing instead a budget-friendly sword equipped with Insight Runeword, you gain a dual advantage: not only does the weapon's inherent physical damage boost Echoing Strike's DPS to over 2,000, but it also provides a constant, steady stream of Mana regeneration.
While this setup may not replicate the one-shot-kill destructive power seen in the previous season, it nonetheless delivers a top-tier standard of monster-clearing speed within Chaos Sanctuary.
In summary, depending on the strength of your current gear, we recommend the following progression for your Diablo 2: Resurrected Ladder Season 14 starter build: Begin with Fire Warlock build for efficient speed-farming in specific zones, or Abyss Warlock build for a smooth, full-map playthrough. Once you reach the mid-to-late game and acquire your legendary gear, you can swiftly transition to Summon Tainted build to fully and smoothly enjoy all the benefits Warlock class has to offer in Season 14!
How does Warlock Class and Other New Content Revolutionize Diablo 2 Resurrected Ladder Season 13 Gameplay?
To celebrate Diablo's 30th anniversary, several flagship games in the series have made significant moves this year. For example, Diablo 2: Resurrected released the new expansion Reign of the Warlock and Ladder Season 13 in February.
Since Season 13 was released later, this means that if you own Reign of the Warlock (ROTW), you can experience all the new features added in the new Ladder Season!
To help you smoothly experience Ladder Season 13, we will introduce all the changes in the season itself, as well as the content added by the new Diablo 2 expansion.

Ladder Season 13 release date
Ladder Season officially launched at 5:00 PM PST on February 20th, while Reign of the Warlock launched more than a week earlier, on February 11th.
Without new expansions, this season would have been just another mundane reset; all you'd do was create a new character and start leveling up from scratch. But now, everything's different.
New class: Warlock
As the eighth class in D2R, Warlocks can control demons through their will, deciding whether to deal magical or fire damage with weapons based on their specific skill tree choices:
- Chaos: Directly deal damage using the character's innate magic and fire skills.
- Eldritch: In melee combat, control weapons with their will, achieving a weapon levitation effect while simultaneously casting curses on enemies.
- Demon: Permanently summon specific demons to aid in combat.
The weapon levitation effect from Eldritch skill path can only be achieved by Warlocks through a unique passive ability, allowing them to use two weapons simultaneously - something other classes cannot do.
To further maximize the effectiveness of this mechanic, it's recommended to use both a shield and Warlock's exclusive Grimoires, utilizing weapon and Runeword combinations to enrich the character's damage output.
Based on the above, common Warlock gameplay in the game currently includes:
- Fire Warlock
- Abyss Warlock
- Echoing Strike Warlock
- Blood Boil Warlock
- Summoner Warlock
Terror Zones update
Terror Zones are an optional, hourly rotating endgame content feature in Diablo 2 Resurrected. You can obtain more and better Diablo 2 Resurrected items by challenging harder content and enemies in these zones.
The main update to this gameplay in Ladder Season 13 is the ability to use the consumable Worldstone Shards to decide which specific chapter enters a Terror state. This means you can farm more purposefully instead of having to wait for random refreshes.
- Western Worldstone Shard - Act 1
- Eastern Worldstone Shard - Act 2
- Southern Worldstone Shard - Act 3
- Deep Worldstone Shard - Act 4
- Northern Worldstone Shard - Act 5
Additionally, Terror Zones now include three difficulty levels: Normal, Nightmare, and Hell. Previously, their respawn interval was one hour, but after the update, Normal Terror Zones now spawn every half hour.
It's worth noting that you will now encounter new Heralds of Terror monsters in Hell Terror Zones; they will spawn after you kill a sufficient number of lower-level monsters.
All Heralds can be divided into five tiers, with each Herald encountered in each round being stronger than the previous one and having a higher chance of dropping better loot.
Furthermore, Heralds of Terror are also an exclusive source of certain powerful new items, such as Thunder Charms, Latent Bone Break, or Sunder Charms.
New optional boss: Colossal Ancients
These bosses are essentially enhanced versions of Act 5 regular quest bosses. To unlock them, you need to defeat the following five act bosses in Hell Terror Zones to collect their exclusive Colossal Ancient Statues:
- Andariel
- Duriel
- Mephisto
- Diablo
- Baal
Once you've collected all five statues, ensure your character is still on Hell difficulty. Then, in Act 5, craft them using Horadric Cube to open a portal to the updated Arreat Summit, allowing you to enter Colossal Ancients encounter.
All Colossal Ancients will enter a berserk state and gain new abilities when their health reaches 50% or 25%, or when an ally is defeated. Additionally, each boss's abilities are directly enhanced.
Furthermore, each Colossal Ancient possesses Conviction Auras, which reduces your resistance to the corresponding element. Furthermore, all three bosses are immune to a specific element at the start of the game:
- Talic - Fire
- Korlic - Cold
- Madawc - Lightning
Fortunately, defeating Colossal Ancients grants you exclusive Colossal Jewels. While only one can be equipped at a time, anyone can significantly boost your damage output or resistances.
More new items
With the addition of new classes and mechanics, the game must also add corresponding items to ensure the entire item system and your gameplay function correctly. Specifically, this includes:
- Basic Items: new item class Grimoires (exclusive to Warlock)
- More Unique Items
- 5 new Runewords: Authority, Coven, Void, Vigilance, and Ritual
- 2 new sets: Bane's Garments and Horazon's Splendor
- Special Consumables
- Colossal Ancient Jewels
- Cube Recipes (Sunder Charms)
More QoL enhancements
First, in Diablo 2: Resurrected, you can now more easily filter out the loot you want or that is truly valuable using loot filters, instead of struggling through a cluttered and disorganized log.
The introduction of advanced stash tabs means you can collect and manage your inventory through clear categorization, no more facing a constantly messy warehouse.
Finally, ROTW also brings a new Chronicle system to Diablo 2: Resurrected, allowing you to track your Holy Grail progress at any time.
As a highly challenging, player-initiated community challenge, Holy Grail originally lacked in-game systems or tools, requiring players to plan everything themselves. Now, however, everything is easy and convenient!
Summary
The launch of the new expansion, Reign of the Warlock, not only enriches your Ladder Season 13 experience but also helps attract more players to D2R. We hope the game continues to thrive in this memorable year!
