Become The Butcher Boss! Diablo 4 Season 12 Introduces a Wild New Way to Accelerate Your Progression

Mar 12, 2026 Author: D4gold

Diablo 4 Season 12 has finally launched! Starting a new season involves a lot of work, such as leveling up your character and farming gold, all while constantly pushing forward through the seasonal progression track.

Although the endgame content across different Diablo 4 seasons tends to be quite similar, it remains the core element that defines your journey toward becoming a top-tier player.

Therefore, you need to complete the early-game content as quickly as possible to reach Torment difficulty level. This unlocks higher-yield gameplay opportunities and allows you to experience Season 12-exclusive mechanics with greater flexibility.

Below, we'll introduce the key tips and strategies you should master to accelerate your progress in Season 12.

Become The Butcher Boss! Diablo 4 Season 12 Introduces a Wild New Way to Accelerate Your Progression

Boosting movement speed

In the short term, increased movement speed primarily helps you dodge enemies more nimbly or finish current combat encounters faster; however, over time, these cumulative gains will significantly boost your overall progression speed.

To achieve this, your first step, once you've earned enough Diablo 4 gold, should be to visit the appropriate vendor to temper your boots, aiming to roll affixes that grant increased movement speed.

More importantly, Season 12 introduces Killstreak reward system: the higher your kill streak count, the more generous the rewards you receive. Consequently, in addition to movement speed affixes, we highly recommend equipping at least one mobility skill.

If you are playing a Necromancer, a class that typically lacks such skills, you should prioritize consuming your early-game skill points to unlock Death's Approach, which grants a 15% movement speed bonus.

Furthermore, you can continue investing points to unlock Reaper's Pursuit. Once active, for every shadow-based skill you have equipped on your action bar, such as Reap or Sever, you will gain an additional 6% movement speed bonus.

If you also slot Decompose, or use the enchantment system to convert Corpse Explosion into a shadow skill, your movement speed can skyrocket even further.

Transforming into The Butcher

In addition to using Bloodied Sigils to increase your chances of encountering The Butcher, Season 12 introduced several new mechanics related to this boss upon its official launch.

First, The Butcher has now been officially designated as a lair boss. Second, and more exciting, a unique mechanic allows you to transform into The Butcher yourself, granting you access to a special Slaughterhouse dungeon where you can unleash total carnage!

While in your Butcher form, you can acquire a brand-new, season-exclusive currency known as Fresh Meat. This currency can be exchanged for various Bloodied Items to further enhance and empower your character.

However, we recommend that you hold off on using this feature until you have reached Torment I difficulty. At that stage, Bloodied items that drop are of much higher quality, potentially even including top-tier gear.

Furthermore, you need to allocate your initial Smoldering Ashes points wisely. For instance, if you are preparing to tackle The Pit, you should reallocate your points from Fresh Meat perk and invest them into Urn of Glyphs instead.

As for how to transform into The Butcher: the primary method involves progressing through Season 12 questline, A Taste of Power. During this questline, interacting with specific shrines will trigger your transformation into The Butcher.

Subsequently, while clearing Helltides, you can consume Meaty Offerings to activate Shrines of Slaughter, allowing you to transform repeatedly.

In short, the more frequently you transform, the greater the amount of loot you will acquire from Slaughterhouse dungeons, as well as the number of Bloodied items you can redeem, which will significantly accelerate your seasonal progression.

Completing seasonal quests ASAP

If you are a hardcore player, or simply someone with limited playtime, you might be tempted to consume all your time on thrilling combat encounters. However, the more low-key seasonal quests are actually incredibly valuable.

For example, A Taste of Power questline mentioned earlier is precisely what enables you to transform into The Butcher. Additionally, once you reach World Tier I, you should prioritize completing a few Cellar runs or Legion Events to earn Smoldering Ashes.

This isn't some arcane, difficult task; it simply requires a bit of extra time investment, but it will undeniably accelerate your overall game progression by a massive margin.

Gambling at Purveyor of Curiosities

Once you have completed the steps above, you should have reached Torment I difficulty and accumulated a stash of Murmuring Obols. At this point, we highly recommend seeking out Purveyor of Curiosities immediately to gamble for unique gear.

While you aren't guaranteed to roll the perfect item right away, this remains the most straightforward method for acquiring high-tier gear at this stage of the game.

A word of caution: do not waste your Obols out of curiosity before you have unlocked Torment difficulty, as any gear obtained prior to that point will not possess Greater Affixes.

Trading at The Den

By this stage, your mercenary has likely reached their maximum level, and you may have even stockpiled a few Pale Marks. You can now travel to The Den, the mercenary hub located in Nahantu, to engage in trading.

It is generally recommended that you redeem a Defensive Aspect Cache; it may yield the aspects you are currently missing, or even gear pieces featuring Greater Affixes.

It is worth noting that the specific items available for redemption depend on the mercenary currently accompanying you. Typically, Varyana is the preferred choice.

In addition to offering trades for Masterworking materials and Mobility Aspect Caches, her passive ability also grants you a boost to your movement speed.

These are all the tips we have to share with you for now. You may have your own unique strategies for progression; by combining them with the guidance provided here, you will be able to complete the core content of Season 12 even faster!
