Diablo 4 Season 14 PTR 3.1 Shifts the Balance Dramatically | Heavy nerfs for Barbarian and Sorcerer open room for others

Jun 01, 2026 Author: D4gold

Many builds in Diablo 4 Season 13 have been overly powerful, yet Paladin's performance has fallen short. However, based on the official PTR 3.1 preview, this situation may reverse.

Roughly 70% of the patch notes consist of balance adjustments. The strongest builds will be nerfed, while most other archetypes receive buffs, steering the overall environment toward greater equilibrium. Currently S-tier builds are expected to drop to A or B tier, whereas bottom-tier builds will move closer to B tier.

Diablo 4 Season 14 PTR 3.1 Shifts the Balance Dramatically | Heavy nerfs for Barbarian and Sorcerer open room for others

Paladin

Buffs

Zenith's base damage and Weaken Upgrade have both received enhancements. Clash's Crusader's March now offers a higher block chance. Shield Charge gains multiple improvements, including increased base damage and armor scaling.

Nerfs

Clash's damage as a damaging skill has been reduced. Moreover, the damage bonus from its Seize Them upgrade - which scaled with Resolve stacks - now caps at 16 stacks (previously uncapped), significantly impacting charge-based builds. Thorns variant of Blessed Shield has also been weakened.

Overall, these changes are a net buff for Paladin. Zeal and Lance builds, which were already decent, are now stronger. Resolve stacking and Shield of Attribution have been slightly nerfed, but many small buffs make up for the loss.

Spiritborn

Buffs

The survivability variant of Toxic Skin has been strengthened. Payback's Break Free variant is now easier to use. Spiny Skin also receives notable improvements, potentially bringing Thorns builds back into relevance.

Nerfs

The active effect of Armored Hides no longer provides Unstoppable. Aspect of Pestilence and infestation have been heavily nerfed, reducing the power of plague swarm builds.

The most significant loss is the rework of Rushing Claw's charge-refund upgrade: it now merely adds one extra charge to the skill instead of interacting with Ferocity. Additionally, its Evasive Swipe variant no longer counts toward Evade, preventing Spiritborn from achieving infinite mobility.

Spiritborn has been substantially weakened overall, especially in terms of fast farming efficiency, but build diversity is expected to increase.

Warlock

Buffs

Fiend of Abaddon receives another notable buff. Nether Step's Gloomwalker variant now properly benefits from movement speed bonuses. Wall of Agony gets a major buff, making its Encircle variant a viable survival tool. Terror Swarm's Nightmare variant is significantly improved, making this ultimate skill more usable.

Nerfs

Wrath generation from Command Fallen has been reduced. The soul fragment demon skill of Command Valick is partially nerfed. Apocalypse Warlock build's damage bonus against surviving enemies is reduced by 90%, and even though the effect's duration is extended to 3 seconds, the loss remains huge.

Overall, Warlock's strongest builds will be nerfed in Diablo 4 Season 14, while its weaker aspects receive buffs - yet the nerfs outweigh the buffs.

Barbarian

Buffs

One variant of Frenzy has been buffed. Wrath of the Berserker receives a decent buff, increasing all damage dealt while active. A legendary power issue with Steel Grasp has been fixed.

Nerfs

Fury generated from taking damage now has a cap. Aspect of Limitless Rage suffers a major nerf: not only is its damage bonus cap locked, but the damage per stack is also significantly reduced.

Some of Barbarian's most dominant playstyles in Diablo 4 Season 13 have been heavily nerfed, while the buffs are quite limited. Considering Barbarian's extraordinary strength in Season 13, such nerfs are understandable.

Druid

Buffs

Several of Druid's unique items receive notable buffs. For example, Boulder from Dolmen Stone now benefits from multiplicative damage bonuses instead of fixed explosive damage, greatly increasing its power. Greatstaff of the Crone's damage bonus has been doubled, among other improvements.

Nerfs

Druid suffers no severe nerfs. The only potential impact is a reduction in the damage bonus from Shepherd's Aspect, which will be a significant blow to Companion builds.

Most of Druid's builds receive buffs, especially those that previously did not rely on Resolve stacking or required complex setups to trigger.

Necromancer

Buffs

Corpse Explosion and all its variants receive improved damage bonuses. Bone Spear effect from Deathless Visage is reasonably enhanced. Golem damage bonus from Mace of King Leoric is increased. Cruor's Embrace's damage is also buffed.

Nerfs

Red Blessing's maximum overpower bonus is halved. Dominate glyph is significantly nerfed. However, many glyph nodes now gain the ability to interact with cold damage.

Despite multiple small buffs, Dominate glyph nerf will affect all builds that rely on overpower mechanics, potentially reducing overall power by about half. Since overpower builds were far ahead, Necromancer may still remain in the mid-tier after the nerfs.

Rogue

Buffs

Both Flurry and Twisting Blades receive damage increases. Breakneck Bandit's Aspect is buffed. Deathmask of Nirmitruq gets a small buff; The Maestro's unique effect is nearly doubled in power. Grenadier Glyph now provides a 12% multiplicative damage bonus for non-ultimate grenade skills. Pride Glyph boosts physical damage against healthy and injured enemies.

Nerfs

Only Dance of Knives sees a small damage reduction; no critical nerfs elsewhere.

Overall, Rogue hasn't been severely nerfed. Even after the bug causing its abnormally high damage was fixed, you can still expect it to remain as strong as in Diablo 4 Season 13.

Sorcerer

Buffs

Flame Shield provides more overpower stacks. Firefly variant of Firebolt deals significantly more damage per explosion, though its overpower upgrade power is slightly reduced.

Nerfs

The infinite stacking mechanics of Unstable Currents and Overwhelming Currents have been removed, and related Diablo 4 items have been heavily nerfed or even reworked.

Sorcerer's nerfs are substantial, but considering Sorcerer could clear The Pit tier 150 without bugs, the adjustment is justified. Fire and Frost builds may gain more attention as a result, though the buffs might not be sufficient.

The update for Diablo 4 Season 14 looks very promising. While nerfs are always unpleasant, classes like Barbarian and Sorcerer were indeed too insane before; pulling them back to a level closer to other classes is reasonable. At the same time, many overlooked builds receive buffs, and intra-class build diversity will increase significantly.
