Diablo 4 Season 12 new Obducite farming way in Dark Citadel following Drop Rate Nerfs | How to get Scroll of Contained Goblins?

Apr 07, 2026 Author: D4gold

The launch of Diablo 4's second expansion, Lord of Hatred, is fast approaching; interestingly, however, a new gameplay feature, Dark Citadel, which was introduced in the previous DLC, has recently received some updates.

Although Dark Citadel is one of the few mechanics in Diablo 4 that requires a party to complete, it hasn't historically been very well-received, resulting in consistently low player engagement since its debut.

However, Season 12 recently introduced a specific update to this dungeon that allows you to indirectly acquire large quantities of Obducite, a crafting material whose drop rate was slightly reduced this season!

Below, we present a guide on how to take advantage of this opportunity.

Diablo 4 Season 12 new Obducite farming way in Dark Citadel following Drop Rate Nerfs | How to get Scroll of Contained Goblins?

Acquiring Obducite via Scroll of Contained Goblins

Dark Citadel's primary reward was originally Dark Citadel Challenger's Cache. This cache can be earned once per week, and opening it yields a chance to obtain Ancestral gear, Citadel Coins, and various other items.

Among these rewards, Citadel Coins can be used at vendors located within the dungeon to redeem additional items, including Scroll of Retempering, which allows you to reroll the tempering affixes on your gear.

However, while farming Dark Citadel recently, players have discovered that a different type of scroll can now drop: Scroll of Contained Goblins.

As a consumable item, this scroll serves a specific purpose: it summons additional Treasure Goblins to your current dungeon location (with the exception of The Pit).

When killed in the open world, this unique monster typically drops only standard rewards, though it may occasionally yield specific types of loot during special events, such as Goblin Greedings and March of the Goblins.

Based on current gameplay observations, however, killing Treasure Goblins within an eligible dungeon now yields a substantial amount of Diablo 4 Obducite! This material, alongside other crafting components, is essential for upgrading and enhancing your gear.

How to obtain the scroll in Dark Citadel?

First, note that this endgame dungeon must be completed by a party of at least two players; a party can consist of up to four members. To maximize your chances of success and minimize risk, it is highly recommended to attempt this with a full party of four.

Next, head to the town of Kurast. From there, travel northeast toward Crater of Lost Souls. Once there, locate the entrance to Ancient Nexus, this serves as the main entrance and central hub for Dark Citadel.

Dark Citadel combat mechanics

Dark Citadel consists of three distinct wings, all of which are accessible from Ancient Nexus. You can unlock the weekly rewards by successfully clearing each of the three wings once per week.

The bosses and enemies within this dungeon are designed based on the goatman archetype, featuring First Khazra Pulverizer as the primary boss, along with three variants: First Khazra Breathtaker, First Khazra Shredder, and First Khazra Trampler.

Although their appearance may seem unfamiliar, their combat patterns are not complex and differ little from the standard Diablo 4 bosses you have encountered elsewhere. What truly requires mastery are the dungeon's intricate interactive mechanics:

  • Soul Siphon: Click to activate; then, kill enemies within the glowing circle to charge the device. The gate leading to the next stage will only unlock once the charging process is complete.
  • Sealing Wards: Kill a Ward Guardian to obtain a Ward Stone, then place it into a Sealing Ward to unlock a new path.
  • Pressure Switches: Each switch corresponds to a specific color-coded door; a player must stand on the switch to open the associated door.
  • Gateway Charge: Kill Realm Guardians to acquire Realm Shards, which are used to charge a portal; the portal will open once fully charged.
  • Realm of Oblivion: A dense fog obscures your vision while simultaneously applying a stacking debuff. If this debuff reaches 100 stacks, you will die instantly.
  • Two-Factor Authentication Barrier: Requires two players to simultaneously stand on two separate circular pressure plates to deactivate the barrier.
  • Soul Conduit: Utilize specific mechanics to gain access to the device, then click its central area to activate it.
  • Door Barrier: Kill a Barrier Guardian to deactivate the barrier. Different guardians correspond to different doors, which are identified by specific glyphs.
  • Barrier Ward: Generates a protective shield for your party.
  • Counterspell Stone: Obtained by killing a Spell Guardian; this item is used to reflect Soul Orbs, generated by subsequent enemies, back at their source.
  • Teleporter: All party members must stand within the designated area to initiate a collective teleport.

In addition to the weekly cache reward, you can unlock Khazra Treasury, which contains a wealth of extra loot by locating and killing a sufficient number of Treasury Guardians within specific wings of the dungeon, identified by their corresponding symbols.

Other ways to obtain Obducite

Aside from obtaining Scrolls of Contained Goblins in Dark Citadel and using them to summon Treasure Goblins for Obducite farming, entering Nightmare Dungeons that feature Treasure Breach affix yields the exact same results.

Additionally, during Season 12, you can obtain Obducite drops by farming the following dungeons:

  • Infernal Hordes
  • Kurast Undercity
  • Horadric Strongrooms

Alternatively, if you have a surplus of other Masterworking materials, you can exchange them for Obducite at Alchemist at a 1:3 ratio.

That covers everything we have to share with you in this guide. If you are currently in urgent need of Obducite, we hope you find this guide helpful!
