What New Battle Mechanics Does Diablo 4 Season 10 Experiment With The New Boss Bartuc?

Sep 18, 2025 Author: D4gold

After entering Diablo 4 endgame, you'll face increasingly dangerous bosses across various events and modes. Only these bosses can drop unique items, requiring you to constantly level up to defeat them.

Bosses in the game can be categorized as pinnacle bosses, tormented bosses, ladder bosses, and world bosses, based on factors like difficulty. Starting with Season 8, each season will feature a new boss based on the season's theme.

These new bosses aren't original to Diablo 4; they've appeared in other Diablo games before, but they've become even more interesting when combined with Diablo 4.

Season 10, which officially will be launched on September 23rd, will introduce Warlord of Blood Bartuc, the final boss of the upgraded Infernal Hordes.

Interestingly, Bartuc also introduces a new boss mechanic, which, if successful, may be applied to other bosses. We'll explain this mechanic alongside Bartuc's introduction.

What New Battle Mechanics Does Diablo 4 Season 10 Experiment With The New Boss Bartuc?

About Warlord Of Blood Bartuc

This boss first appeared in Diablo 1, briefly appeared in various forms in Diablo 2 and 3, and now joins Diablo 4 as a full-fledged boss.

In terms of lore, Bartuc lived during Anno Kehjistani during the third century BCE. The three most important Kehjistani clans at the time were Vizjerei, Ennead, and Ammuit, and Bartuc belonged to Vizjerei.

Later, a war broke out between the clans after a mage within Vizjerei clan summoned a demon, and it was during this period that Bartuc earned the title of Warlord of Blood.

However, Bartuc's reliance on demonic power ultimately brought disaster to all the clans, including his own, leading his brother, Horazon, to seal him away upon his death - but that's far from the end.

Bartuc In D4S10

This boss's appearance in Diablo 4 Season 10 isn't intended to expand the story, but rather to provide more playable options for your Infernal Hordes.

As a key Diablo 4 endgame event, Infernal Hordes is a source of Diablo 4 gold, gem fragments, crafting materials, and rare gear. To obtain these, you must collect enough Burning Aether and then defeat three Fell Council members to redeem the corresponding chests.

However, in Season 10, you can bypass Fell Council and directly confront the final boss, Bartuc. To do this, you and your teammates must consume Burning Aether to summon him.

Winning this boss battle guarantees Chaos Armor, along with other random rewards. If you defeat him on Torment 4 or higher, you'll also receive additional Chaos Armor pieces. The higher the difficulty level, the greater the rewards.

How To Defeat This Boss?

After completing 10 waves in Infernal Hordes, you and your teammates will need to consume 666 Burning Aether each to summon Bartuc. Because this boss is quite difficult, you and your teammates must ensure you're strong enough before summoning him.

What's unique about this boss is that he periodically enters an invulnerability phase, during which he's invulnerable to damage and requires you to use the arena's teleporters to move around and avoid attacks quickly.

However, if your team deals enough damage during this phase, you can break the "invisibility shield," forcing the boss to advance to the next phase early - a new boss fight mechanic we'll be introducing next.

What New Mechanics Does Bartuc Bring?

Since the release of Diablo 4, the more challenging pinnacle and tormented boss fights have featured multiple phases, including phases of invulnerability, during which the boss is invulnerable. Your only hope is to constantly dodge their attacks to survive until the next phase.

Frankly, this mechanic serves little purpose other than testing your dodge reflexes. It simply artificially prolongs the encounter, making it appear more challenging without providing any additional loot.

However, the latest pre-release patch for Season 10 updates this mechanic for Bartuc boss fight. Now, if you can quickly deal enough damage to Bartuc, you can skip the invulnerability phase, accelerating the fight.

So, if you're teaming up with friends to enter Infernal Hordes, you can prioritize your gear and class selection, focusing on both defense and health regeneration, while also focusing on DPS to minimize Bartuc's invulnerability.

Will The Changes To Phases Of Invulnerability Be Rolled Out?

Apparently, Diablo 4 intends to experiment with new mechanics with the new boss and will decide whether to expand this boss fight mechanic to more bosses in the future based on its performance and player feedback.

Currently, the bosses in Diablo 4 with phases of invulnerability include:

  • Echo of Lilith
  • Andariel, Maiden of Anguish
  • The Beast in the Ice
  • Belial, Lord of Lies
  • Duriel, King of Maggots
  • Echo of Varshan
  • Grigoire, The Galvanic Saint
  • Harbinger of Hatred
  • Lord Zir
  • Urivar

If you want to get the new unique items added in Season 10, you'll have to constantly farm bosses that drop them, so the existence of phases of invulnerability will undoubtedly be a significant time-consuming process.

So, if the new mechanic is well-received, hopefully it will be rolled out to other boss fights through further patches before the end of Season 10. This may help Diablo 4 gain even more positive reviews from players at the end of 2025.

That's all for this update. With only five days left until Season 10 officially launches, please be ready to face the all-new Bartuc!
