Diablo 4 Lord of Hatred War Plans Meta Nodes Guide | These broken combos will flood your screen with Mythics and XP Orbs

May 05, 2026 Author: D4gold

Diablo 4 Lord of Hatred War Plans is the new system dominating the endgame experience. If you can piece together the right node combination, you can easily make a particular endgame activity incredibly juicy.

Each endgame activity's War Plans tree has different branches - some boost rewards, while others create synergies with other activities. Every node looks temptingly powerful, but you need to choose carefully, because the respec cost can climb as high as fifty million or beyond. So let's take a look at which nodes stand out in each activity.

Diablo 4 Lord of Hatred War Plans Meta Nodes Guide | These broken combos will flood your screen with Mythics and XP Orbs

Tree of Whispers

  • Tree of Plenty: Grants a fourth Whispers Cache.
  • Wisdom of Whispers: Experience Orbs from Whispers Caches grant 50% more experience.
  • Grim Mysteries: Replaces Collections of Mysteries with Collections of Chaos.
  • Resplendent Favor: Each Whispers Cache has a chance to contain a Resplendent Spark.

This is the middle path, and Resplendent Favor node is clearly your ultimate goal. Mythics are in high demand and not easy to come by, and Resplendent Spark offered here lets you directly craft Mythic item you want.

Before you hit max Paragon level, the extra XP from Wisdom of Whispers is fantastic, but once you reach the cap you can swap it for neighboring nodes on the left or right that make Whispers Caches yield more materials or Diablo 4 items.

Nightmare Dungeons

  • Goblinfalls: Treasure Goblins have a chance to drop Nightmare Dungeon Sigils with Treasure Breach affix.
  • Horadric Hunter: Killing 30 elite enemies summons a Horadric Altar.
  • Altar of Avarice: Horadric Altar is replaced by a Goblin Altar.

The node bonuses in Nightmare Dungeons don't feel particularly impactful. You're therefore better off gambling on the high-reward option - Goblin path. Although Goblin spawn rate is extremely low, when you do encounter one it drops a massive amount of loot, materials, and can even drop Uniques and Mythics. If you don't trust your luck, you can take the left path, which increases monster drop rates in Nightmare Dungeons and also boosts your movement speed - essentially raising your farming efficiency in Nightmare Dungeons.

Helltide

  • Hellmouth: When a Hellwyrm appears, it brings one of three effects: Chao Rift, Maggots, or Bloodseekers.
  • Writhe of Rot: Increases Monster Power of Maggots.

For Helltide, there isn't much room for choice. The best strategy is to go straight down the middle and grab Maggots bonus. This upgrade delivers both massive experience and Lair Boss keys. On Torment 12 difficulty, a single Hellwyrm can yield around 20 to 30 million experience, potentially turning Helltide into the best experience farm out there.

The Undercity

  • Endles Swarm: Invasion Portals appear in The Undercity.
  • Unfortunate Souls: Invasion Portals summon Wasps that drop Forgotten Souls and other crafting materials.
  • Gutter Filth: When you activate a Beacon, you have a chance to summon a Portal Prankster.
  • Trials of Tribute: After defeating a Portal Prankster, slaying District Boss causes a Tribute Chest to appear.

In The Undercity, you have two main choices. The left path lets you obtain more Forgotten Souls, which is one of the hardest resources to farm in the current patch. The right path grants more experience, speeding up your runs.

Lair Bosses

  • Two by Two: After defeating a Boss, there is a chance for a portal to a Nemesis Boss to appear.
  • Greater Nemesis: After defeating a Boss, there is a chance for a portal to a Greater Nemesis Boss to appear.
  • Ultimate Nemesis: After defeating a Boss, there is a chance for a portal to an Ultimate Nemesis Boss to appear.

The left and right nodes for Lair Bosses allow Lair Bosses to appear in other activities. You simply pick the boss you care about, or whichever activity you run the most. However, going straight down the middle is the best choice. The problem with the other branches is that they significantly drag out other activities. If your goal is fast clears, slowing down for a kill is far less effective than taking the middle path to gain more summoning opportunities while boss farming, which also yields massive returns.

Infernal Hordes

Infernal Hordes is currently the most time-consuming activity. The Pit takes only 90 seconds per run, while an Infernal Hordes run can easily exceed ten minutes. If you aren't particularly fond of this activity, you should avoid it as much as possible. If you absolutely have to run it, tailor your choice to the wave count:

  • 6-wave mode: Take Devil's Deal to secure 200 Ether.
  • 10-wave mode: Take Method is Madness and pair it with Chaos Wave-related bonuses.

The Pit

  • Choron's Haste: Killing a Guardian grants +1 glyph for 5 minutes.
  • Heart of Stone: You need to pick up Heart of Stone at the start and carry it all the way to the end. It grants +1 Glyph upgrade and Progression Orbs, speeding up your Pit runs.

These two nodes come from the left side of the tree. If you have enough skill points, you can also opt for the middle tree; the bottom node, Choron's Soul, likewise provides Progression Orbs plus a huge amount of XP. In a group, these nodes can help your party blast through The Pit. They are incredibly strong choices.

Your final War Plans decisions come down to your build, what you're good at, and what you actually want to do. When you stop placing points at random and instead focus on farming only the enhanced talent trees, the rewards will be absolutely insane.
