How to craft the brand new Frozen Orb Sorcerer Build in Diablo 4 Lord of Hatred by adding Unique Focus Onyx Soul?

May 08, 2026 Author: D4gold

The launch of Diablo 4 Lord of Hatred not only introduced a new class but also, through skill tree adjustments and the addition of new items, opened up possibilities for other classes to craft entirely new builds or upgrade their classic build options.

Take Sorcerer for instance: Frozen Orb build was already a popular choice among players of this class. However, when combined with the new Unique Focus Onyx Soul, its effectiveness reaches even greater heights.

Below, we will guide you through exactly how to achieve this in Lord of Hatred, allowing you to craft an even more powerful Sorcerer character.

How to craft the brand new Frozen Orb Sorcerer Build in Diablo 4 Lord of Hatred by adding Unique Focus Onyx Soul?

Frozen Orb Build overview

This is a fast-paced, highly functional build. Its primary skill, Frozen Orb, provides AoE damage and applies the vulnerable status effect; however, the build's true damage ceiling relies heavily on the additional damage provided by its active Conjurations.

While Onyx Soul is the centerpiece gear item we will discuss later, Fractured Winterglass is also an indispensable component for crafting this build, as it enables your Conjuration Skills to cast Frozen Orbs.

This means that, cooldowns permitting, you can simultaneously cast Frozen Orbs and trigger your Conjuration Skills. Furthermore, by utilizing Enchantment effects, you can summon even more allies once your cooldowns have reset.

What is Onyx Soul?

This item is a focus, a type of off-hand gear. In Diablo 4, only Sorcerer and Necromancer classes are able to equip this specific gear type.

As for Onyx Soul specifically, it can only be equipped by Sorcerer players and introduced to the game in Lord of Hatred. Its base stat bonuses include:

  • 1,407 Damage per Second (with an Attack Speed of 1.20 attacks per second)
  • +125-149 Intelligence
  • +1,526-1,830 Maximum Life
  • Damage over Time Multiplier: 15-30%

Additionally, Diablo 4 Onyx Soul possesses a unique effect: it causes your Frozen Orb to return to your hand, dealing 80-100% increased damage to any enemies in its path.

How to farm Onyx Soul?

As with most unique items introduced in Season 13 / Lord of Hatred, the primary sources for farming Onyx Soul can be summarized as follows: defeating Lair Bosses, participating in Endgame Events, and gambling with Murmuring Obols.

Among all Lair Bosses, only Varshan drops this particular Focus. To unlock this boss's hoard, you must first acquire Lair Keys. Furthermore, it is most effective to combine these items with War Plans while clearing endgame events.

In fact, thanks to the introduction of Horadric Cube mechanics, there is an alternative method for obtaining Onyx Soul: utilizing its 3-to-1 Transmutation feature.

This feature allows you to transmute three identical pieces of gear into a single new item of the same gear type. However, the result is random; therefore, if you are specifically aimed to unlock a particular unique item, this method is generally not recommended as your primary strategy.

How to integrate Onyx Soul into Frozen Orb Build?

Onyx Soul grants Frozen Orb the ability to automatically reverse direction and home in on your location. This means it not only provides a massive multiplicative damage bonus but also extends the duration of Frozen Orb, thereby allowing it to deal significantly higher total damage over its active lifespan.

Skill selection and execution

It is important to note that, due to the combination of Onyx Soul and the skill tree changes introduced in Season 13, certain skills within this build undergo an elemental type conversion. For instance, Teleport, which is typically classified as a Lightning skill, is converted into a Fire skill.

To fully capitalize on the effects of Aspect of Elemental Constellation within this build, your skill configuration should ideally adhere to a "2+2" principle: specifically, including two Frost skills, two Fire skills, and two Lightning skills.

By arranging your skills in this manner, equipping this aspect on your amulet will grant you a multiplicative damage bonus of up to 180%.

Once your initial skill setup is complete, the first step in actual combat is to activate Ice Armor. This is because during battle, you will automatically trigger and cast Frost Nova, which helps reduce the cooldown of Ice Armor.

Next, you should cast Frozen Orb to deal damage. As for your Familiar, while pressing its key does trigger a specific buff, you do not actually need to actively press it yourself, as the same buff can be acquired through other means.

Regarding Flame Shield, you may activate it if you need to mitigate damage over time effects or explosive damage in order to survive. However, much like Familiar, you do not need to actively manage or cast it frequently.

The usage of Teleport skill is quite straightforward: essentially, you simply use it to zip around the battlefield while mindlessly spamming Frozen Orb, occasionally activating Ice Armor as needed.

Additional gear options

Beyond the previously mentioned Fractured Winterglass and the centerpiece of this guide, Onyx Soul, crafting Frozen Orb Sorcerer build capable of tackling Lord of Hatred content requires incorporating even more powerful gear.

If you happen to possess Mythic items, Heir of Perdition, Tyrael's Might, and Ring of Starless Skies would be your ideal choices. If not, Godslayer Crown serves as an excellent alternative.

Another unique item, Raiment of the Infinite, offers astonishing damage reduction capabilities; when paired with Sunderfrost Aspect, it can further amplify your damage output.

However, adopting this setup necessitates stacking resource cost reduction affixes on your other ring slot to ensure you can continuously chain Frozen Orb casts without interruption. This, of course, remains a highly viable strategy.

Provided you assemble and utilize your gear effectively, this brand-new Frozen Orb Sorcerer build, enhanced by Onyx Soul, should empower you to conquer the most formidable challenges in the new expansion, making even Torment 12 a breeze! Give it a try today!
