Apr 11, 2026 Author: D4gold

The official Diablo 4 expansion, Lord of Hatred, has recently been revealed. The nearly 12-minute opening gameplay showcases cunning plots, new enemies, and of course, blood and violence, generating considerable anticipation among players.

This major DLC will officially launch on April 28, 2026. In the video, Mephisto currently holds a decisive advantage, wreaking havoc on Sanctuary through the body of the blessed Zakarum prophet Akarat, and preparing to travel to the ancient Skovos Pools of Creation—the birthplace of the first Nephalem—attempting to corrupt Pools of Creation and unleash a Flood of Hatred upon the world.

Opening Story and Gameplay Content

In the latest demo, Wanderer and Lorath Nahr meet at the docks, preparing to board a ship to Skovos.

Along the way, a Hand of Akarat preacher proclaims an impending solar eclipse, a harbinger of misfortune. He then attacks their ships.

Wanderer will face a host of new enemies, including merfolk, crabs, water aberrations, and sea serpents, fighting his way through and defeating them. Finally, Wanderer will confront Hand of Akarat. At this point, Mephisto will briefly possess preacher, transforming him into the terrifying Hateborn Abomination, leading to an even fiercer battle.

Aside: The Entanglement Between Akarat and Mephisto

Let's learn about their story. Akarat was born in Xiansai, the northernmost part of Sankturio, a place yet to be explored in any Diablo game. His mother was from Nahantu, but after Mephisto corrupted the land with hatred, she was forced to flee with many of the inhabitants.

After fleeing, Akarat joined a monastic order focused on meditation and peace. Like a monastic community, they renounced material possessions. One day, Akarat witnessed a luminous event, supposedly orchestrated by the angel Yaerius. Yaerius declared Akarat a prophet who would spread the teachings of light.

Following this supposed revelation, Akarat embarked on a pilgrimage to Kehjistan. His childhood friend, Ysevete, became his first follower. He spread the teachings of light and gathered many followers. As the angel had foretold, Akarat became a prophet, proclaiming the dormant light within people along his journey to eradicate evil.

Influenced by his spirit guardian Ah Bulan, Akarat realized he had a mission: to destroy Mephisto, the source of corruption. Otherwise, Nahantu could not be freed.

On his journey to destroy the seeds of hatred, Akarat discovered a cave. There, he found a bloodied wolf, the avatar of Mephisto. A battle erupted between Akarat and the avatar of Mephisto.

Akarat fought valiantly but realized he could not defeat this powerful and immortal being in battle. He outwitted him. Akarat allowed himself to be bitten, releasing the light within him. Mephisto had never felt such pain. His avatar was destroyed, but Akarat died.

Ysevete took Akarat's remains to Land of Light he and his followers had built. There, Akarat was buried to prevent his body from decaying. His followers spread Akarat's teachings through stories and other works. Ysevete founded Spiritborn. Akarat himself appears in the spirit world in the form of a lion, and players can encounter him.

Next, let's continue discussing the plot of Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred.

Mephisto's Deception and Plot Development

This gameplay demo follows the previously released trailer, The Queen and The Saint. The plot revolves around Akarat and the Queen of Skovos Adreona. Lorath intended to warn his old friend Adreona from the prequel novel, The Lost Horadrim, but instead fell under Mephisto's spell, was manipulated by evil forces, and accidentally killed Adreona.

Incredibly, Akarat then publicly resurrected Adreona and begged her to forgive Horadrim.

Mephisto is clearly a unique enemy in Diablo's history. Lord of Hatred's ability to manipulate and deceive the masses makes him a dangerous adversary; he uses Akarat's disguise, leading countless followers to believe Mephisto is the resurrected Shepherd of Light, willing to die for him.

Ultimately, players must join forces with Lilith to defeat Mephisto and end Age of Hatred.

New Classes and Major Expansion Content

In addition to the new map Skovos zone and the main storyline, the expansion brings numerous updates. Two new classes will be introduced: Paladin is already available to players, and Warlock will be unlocked on April 28th, the expansion's launch day.

The unlocking of Warlock will change the game environment and attract player attention. Previous experiments with this class in Diablo II: Resurrected showed that the developers know how to develop new character prototypes in interesting ways.

Meanwhile, all class skill trees have been reworked, a new Loot Filter has been added, and Horadric Cube has returned. Players can also experience the customizable War Plans system and the endless mode Echoing Hatred, which may increase the demand for gold. There's also a brand-new fishing minigame, covering combat, character development, and casual gameplay.

Furthermore, besides this fishing gameplay, upgrading equipment and crafting items will require a significant amount of gold, but unfortunately, the amount you can obtain from in-game drops is very limited.

Therefore, it's recommended to directly buy D4 Gold from D4Gold.com to quickly advance your progress in the new DLC. These are just some of the many highlights of this expansion. From a captivating story to revamped endgame content, Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred will satisfy all players' needs, and we believe players are already eagerly anticipating it!
