Diablo 4 Season 13 Low-tier Gem Crafting Disabled to Prevent Crashes | Yet you can still farm top gems in 30 seconds

May 27, 2026 Author: D4gold

For players still in the leveling phase, you may notice that certain gems cannot be crafted when you attempt to combine them. This is a temporary measure implemented by the developers to prevent the game from crashing, and the impact of this bug is limited - you can simply skip those gems and continue playing normally.

Unfortunately, the bug remained unfixed in May 26 patch. Let’s take a look at what the official announcement says and how you should deal with Gem Crafting Blocklist.

Diablo 4 Season 13 Low-tier Gem Crafting Disabled to Prevent Crashes | Yet you can still farm top gems in 30 seconds

Announcement Details

According to the announcement released on May 23, not all gems are affected. The restrictions currently apply to the three lowest-tier gems in terms of base stats, which are:

  • Crude Gems
  • Chipped Gems
  • Normal Gems

The crafting function for these gems has been temporarily disabled. When you visit Jeweler and try to craft them, the operation will not complete. You can still interact with the materials, and attempting to craft will neither consume your materials nor your gold - but you will not receive any gems either.

This measure is intended to prevent the game client from crashing when players try to craft these gems. The restriction mainly affects those who are still in the leveling phase; players who have already reached the mid- or endgame will barely notice it.

Potential Impact

Because Crude, Chipped, and Normal gems cannot be upgraded further, they will gradually accumulate in your inventory or stash. For Season 13 players, stash space is already tight, so you either salvage them into fragments or simply discard them.

Moreover, crafting higher-tier gems such as Flawless or Royal gems normally requires step-by-step upgrades from lower-tier gems. Now that the bottom level of crafting is blocked, you can only obtain Flawless and Royal gems directly from monster drops, chests, or trading. This makes acquiring Flawless Horadric gems considerably harder.

High-tier gems are also crucial for boosting armor and weapon stats in the late game. For leveling-phase players, some of your character’s gem sockets may remain empty for a long time, or you may have to fill them with low-tier gems as a temporary solution, which hurts your combat efficiency.

How to Deal with the Impact?

Some players may choose to temporarily stop picking up low-tier gems to reduce inventory management burden. You can use a loot filter to hide these low-tier gems so that you don’t accidentally pick them up and waste stash space. Others continue hoarding them, waiting for a fix so they can craft everything at once. However, since the developers have not announced a timeline for the fix, hoarding low-tier gems is not recommended.

Instead, focus on activities, dungeons, or events that drop mid- to high-tier gems directly. You can also obtain Diablo 4 gems through non-crafting methods such as gambling or Season Journey rewards.

How to Obtain Gems?

Lord of Hatred expansion introduced two new gem qualities: Horadric Gems and Flawless Horadric Gems. These provide greater bonuses than Grand gems. Furthermore, if your gear is lucky enough to roll Gem Power affix through Transfiguration, the bonus granted by each Flawless Horadric Gem is further doubled. As a result, Season 13 demands even more gems than before.

Therefore, you need efficient gem farming methods. Under the influence of this bug, directly farming high-quality gems is clearly better. Among the various farming methods, some common ones may seem viable but are actually quite inefficient. Knowing them can help you avoid wasting time.

Inefficient Methods

Infernal Hordes

After completing an Infernal Hordes run, a specific chest rewards a large number of Gem Fragments. The problem is that other methods drop finished gems directly, whereas Infernal Hordes only give fragments. Moreover, each run takes 10 to 12 minutes. In terms of fragments per unit of time, this method falls far behind more efficient alternatives.

Nightmare Dungeons

Certain Nightmare Dungeons come with gem-related affixes and reward a batch of gems upon completion. If you already plan to farm Nightmare Dungeons, getting gems on the side is decent, but farming them specifically for gems is not particularly efficient.

If you come across a Nightmare Dungeon with an ideal affix such as Diamond, you can push the dungeon to the entrance of the boss room (without killing the boss), then exit, reset the dungeon, and re-enter through War Plans portal. This allows you to repeatedly farm the same dungeon with a gem-reward affix. Although more efficient than random farming, it still requires constant entering and exiting, so it is not the optimal solution.

War Plans Rewards

Certain stages of War Plans questline directly reward gems. However, you need to complete five rounds of activities to earn a gem reward, which is typically just one or two gems at most. The input-output ratio is poor, unless you happen to need to upgrade your War Plans rank anyway.

Efficient Farming Methods

Currently, the most effective gem farming methods focus on two very short dungeons. Once you are familiar with them, each run takes a few minutes, yet yields finished gems consistently.

Seer's Search

Seer's Search is located northeast of Temis in the new Lord of Hatred zone. This dungeon is the best choice because it has no quest objectives - you simply need to find the boss and defeat it. Enter, run to the far side, kill the boss, and the whole process takes about 30 seconds.

Each boss kill always drops three Royal Gems, and each Royal Gem is worth 100,000 gem fragments. Moreover, each Royal Gem has a chance to upgrade to a Grand gem. The dungeon does not restrict Torment difficulty; even on Torment 1, you still receive the same number of Royal Gems.

Enclave of Darkness

Enclave of Darkness dungeon is located near Cerrigar area. Compared to Seer's Search, this dungeon is also fast, and its final reward is 10 Royal Gems. However, the fastest you can complete it is around four minutes, making it much less efficient.

It is highly recommended you to farm these two dungeons repeatedly. After accumulating a large number of Royal Gems, go to Jeweler and salvage them into Gem Fragments, then use those fragments to directly craft higher-tier gems.

If you are affected by Gem Crafting Blocklist, do not worry too much. Just focus on leveling up and skipping those low-tier gems - it will not severely impact your gameplay experience.
